On a wool sock walk, you experience the winter forest with all your senses. In woollen socks your steps are soft and quiet, and you can feel the snow beneath your feet. It’s almost like walking barefoot – without cold toes or stones poking your heels.
When you leave your shoes behind for a while, your mind settles too, and the winter forest opens up in a whole new way.
We begin by awakening our senses and settling into the embrace of the forest. When you tune in to nature, you might catch a glimpse of a gnome or a forest sprite, or hear the wingbeats of Kokko, the great eagle of Finnish myth.

Along the way, you’ll hear stories of the sages, sorcerers and forest spirits of Koli. We may spot animal tracks in the snow, see the stars, or watch moonlight make the frosty forest sparkle. The walk ends with a small taste of something local.
The wool sock walk is at its most beautiful as the sun sets and twilight creeps into the forest. The soft glow of lanterns shows the way while leaving the forest its mystery. The walk can also be enjoyed during the day, when the winter woods glitter in the light.
The route is easy and safe, and we move at a relaxed pace. The walk suits anyone with basic fitness, and children are welcome with their own adults.
